 CSA Post Office References Minimize
A complete listing of Arkansas CSA Post Offices has recently be published (CONFEDERATE POST OFFICES, POSTMASTERS AND POSTMARKS OF THE TRANS-MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT, Warren H. Sanders and Erin R. Gunter(2007, Confederate Stamp Alliance).  The authors produced their book from original sources, both US and CSA.  I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants the last word in research on this subject.

It not my desire to reproduce (plagerize?) the great work of Warren and Erin on this site.  However, the number of copies of their book available, as is true of most references on Arkansas, is limited.  So I want to provide a reference "for the rest of us" who can not easily get their book, or who want the information quickly.

I have in my possession a Microfilm copy of the official CSA post office records pertaining to Arkansas.  It is my intention to transcribe and post this information in this location, as time allows.  The reference I have is labelled as follows: Records of CSA 1861-1865 Microfilm Reels 49-54, Manuscript Division, Library of Congress, Vols 92-94 Shelf 13744, Container 100, Frames 31440-31480, Ledger PP 1-82 (Pitkin Papers).  I will cross check these entries with the above reference and try to clear up any differences.

The information on the microfilm includes the PO name, any information about establishment or discontinuence dates, and the name in many cases of the first Postmaster.  When I have a cover on this web site from a given post office i will make the entry "clickable" so you can view the cover, or covers.

Dates of Establishment and Discontinuance have been determined from two References:
1) United States Post Offices, Volume VII-The Lower Mississippi Valley-compiled by Richard Helbock (La Posta Publications, Scappose, OR, 2005)
2) From Memdag to Norsk: A Historical Directroy of Arkansas Post Offices, 1832-1971-Russell P. Baker (Arkansas Genealogical Society, Hot Springs, AR, 1988)

MOST ARKANSAS POST OFFICES HAVE NO KNOWN EXISTING COVER WITH THEIR MARKINGS.  IF YOU HAVE ANY COVER NOT LISTED ON THIS SITE, PLEASE NOTIFY ME THROUGH THE COMMENT SECTION ON THE FRONT PAGE, AS I AM VERY DESIROUS OF GETTING A SCAN OF ANY SUCH COVER.

As I add a section, there will be a page for each letter or group of letters that you can click to see the Post Offices in that range of the alphabet.  Check back every now and then to see what progress I have made
